Fun Summer Treats
I love Summer it is one of my favorite seasons. Summer to me is a time of relaxing and more of a carefree routine. Our days are filled with fun activities and lazy mornings. Most of all I love cold summer treats mostly in the form of ice cream. I mean who doesn’t enjoy a tasty ice cream cone or your favorite sundae from your local ice cream shop. But since my family and I have strived to become healthier we have limited the amount of ice cream visits.
But there is still away to add some fun desserts in to your summer evenings without having to make it an ice cream or smore’s night every night. A couple years ago we purchased a vitamix and I have loved it for smoothies and the occasional margarita or adult mixer. This year we have made good use of it in the evening after dinner making up everything from our own fruit flavored frozen yogurt to fun sorbets and popsicles.
The best part of these fun summer treats is we are able to use fresh whole fruit and limit the amount of sugar that goes into the making of them. This fits in with our clean eating lifestyle perfectly. It has become a fun family affair as we peel and cut up fruit together in the evening to come up with the best frozen dessert. So far the favorite recipe is the Orange Sorbet. So before you head out for an ice cream cone consider grabbing your food processor or mixer and whip up some fun healthy family treats.

2 Oranges peeled and halved
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
2 cups Ice
Place all items into mixer/blender and select low speed.
Switch to high speed for 30 to 40 seconds.
Strawberry Yogurt Freeze
1 cup Vanilla Yogurt
1 pound frozen unsweetened strawberries
Place all items into mixer and blend. You can also use a food processor.
